A margin is the space between the edge of the paper and the edge of the area being printed. Sometimes you need to change print margins to accomodate for a non 8.5 inch by 11 inch paper, or maybe you would like to fit more text on a single page. Either way, Word 2007 makes it easier than ever to perform this task. Here is how:
  1. Open or create the document to be edited
  2. Switch to the Page Layout tab
  3. Click the Margins button to display available options or click the Size button next to it to display paper size options and select the paper you want
  4. Select the margin size you want or click Custom Margins to set them however you please

[edit] Default Margins

To set the default margins that each new blank document is given:

  1. After you select your desired margin size, go back to the list and click Custom Margins
  2. Then click Page Setup
  3. Click Default
  4. Click Yes

[edit] Show Margin Lines

To view margin lines in your document (not really there of course):

  1. Click the Office Button (the big round one)
  2. At the bottom of the menu find and click Word Options
  3. Click Advanced on the panel on the left
  4. Check (or uncheck to remove) Show Text Boundaries under Show Document Content

Note: Margin lines appear as dotted lines and only appear when the document is viewed in Print Layout (the default)or Web Layout.
