Default XP's Firewall

I am trying to setup XP's Firewall. I would like to open a port to all
servers. Do I always have to type an IP address of a specific server?

Hi

Yes, I'm afraid that you do. Have you thought of installing a 3rd party firewall, such as ZoneAlarm - www.zonelabs.com

The IP address in the port opening dialog is for ICS, for firewall mappings
just use localhost. The XP SP1 ICF doesn't check the IP address of the
remote server.

Hi Ken

One of my 'pet peeves' is the XP firewall. I always use a 3rd party firewall for reasons that you understand.

I've heard a lot of good things about ZoneAlarm firewall. Is it easy to use? I mean does it ask you a lot of technical questions whether you want to block or not block anything coming in and going out? I used to use McAfee firewall which does just that. Most of the time I didn't understand what it was asking. I'd really like to try the ZoneAlarm firewall, but I'm worried that I mess up my computer by not knowing what to block or what not to block.

I'm a mini guru (been working around / with computers for 30+ years). I
install the free ZoneLab (Zone Alarm) firewall on most computers which
friends bring to me to fix after they've tried to kill their computers.
Ease of use: a basic knowledge of what programs (and services?) you want to
run. When ZA inititally start it asks if you want to all 'common services'
(or some such) is you say yes it includes the ones you'll probably not
recognize and from there you'll be asked about specific programs whose names
you should recognize. It's not very technical - I put it on the computer of
a 13 r old and he has no problem, and a 75+/- yr old lady and she has no
problem.

One thing I did like is that the uninstall seems to be a clean uninstall; if
you don't like it, uninstall it and it all goes away.
