Default XP networking solution needed!!!!!!

Here is my setup:

I have a desktop (PC1) running Win Me that has a Lexmark
X83 printer USB connected to it. This computer (PC1) is
ethernet connected (via CAT-5 cabling)to a Linksys
Wireless B router that shares cable internet. I also have
a portable laptop (PC2) running Win XP Home that is using
a Linksys Wireless B notebook card. Now, I set up my
network, disabled the ICF on PC2, and enabled printer/file
sharing on both PC's. My problem is that I can connect to
the Internet and share files with/between both PC's and I
can print all day long from PC1. However, I CANNOT print a
lick from PC2. I set up the Lexmark X83 (all-in-one) as a
shared network printer on PC2 and PC1 and even manually
created and installed a local port for it on PC2. Still
won't print.

I researched on Microsoft FAQ board and found this problem:

"Cannot Print from a Portable Computer to a Shared Printer
Connected to Windows 98 or Windows Me Server."

The explanation listed was as follows:

"On a portable computer that runs Windows XP Professional,
when you try to print to a shared printer that is
connected to a Windows 98- or Windows Millennium Edition
(Me)-based home network server, the file does not print.
If you go to the printer's Properties dialog box and try
to print a test page, the following error message may
appear:.... Test page failed to print. Would you like to
view the print troubleshooter for assistance? Unable to
create a print job."

Now I know that I am running XP Home and not Professional,
but that is tha exact error that I get when I try to print
a test page.

The solution that they give is as follows:

"This behavior can occur if the portable computer has
cached domain credentials and Windows XP cannot verify
that the computer is in a secure domain environment.
Windows 98 and Windows Me cannot provide a secure domain
environment for Windows XP."

Bottom line.....Can SOMEONE please explain what this
means???? Or, can someone please let me know what I need
to do to fix this???

Very Respectfully,
Greg

I believe you need to rename the Lexmark printer. When the drivers and/or printer software are installed. The printer is named as "Lexmark X83" (w/o quotes). You will see that there is a space between the word 'Lexmark' and 'X83'. The printer's name cannot be longer than 13 characters (maybe it's 11), but definitely there can not be a 'space' in the name. If you have only one (1) Lexmark printer, just rename the printer:

LEXMARK

Also get and install, the latest XP printer drivers from the Lexmark site.

Network driver for the Lexmark. Use your CD from Lexmark to install driver.
Share names must be the same.

O.K. I have already installed the drivers from the
included disk into the Me and XP home computers. I have
also tried different names for the printer (X83,
LexmarkX83 with no space, and PRINTER.) I had already done
this before posting this problem. If I disconnect the
printer from the Me desktop and USB it into the XP laptop
it will print like a champ. I also downloaded the newest
XP driver form Lexmark and installed it onto the XP
computer (after removing the included CD driver) and it
didn't help.
Do I just need to update my desktop to XP so they are both
using the same OS? I am sure that will fix the problem.
Also, are these explanations for the "This behavior can
occur if the portable computer has cached domain
credentials and Windows XP cannot verify that the computer
is in a secure domain environment." problem that I am
having or are these suggestions to fix the problem itself?

NEED MORE HELP!!!!!
