Default XP File, Print Sharing Crawls, TCP/IP protocols, however, fine.

I've been dealing with a problem on our laptop, and I'd love to fix it
without having to reinstall Windows. I've spent a lot of time
searching google groups, the MS Knowledge base, all the usual stops,
and at this point I think the best shot I have is to straight out ask
for myself.

When I copy from any of the other three XP machines on the network,
this XP machine drags. It takes 14 minutes to copy a couple of MB.
However, if I grab the file through HTTP, by putting it in the
/apache/htdocs folder of the XP machine that runs Apache, it copies in
no time flat. It takes a little more time than no time flat to copy
the same file from a remote web server, but is still way faster than
copying it over the network.

So it's going over the same exact lines, but File and Print Sharing
just drags, whereas all other network functions seem to be going at
the right speed. Has this problem cropped up before, and how can I
fix it? It's mighty frustrating.

Installed protocols: Client for Microsoft Networks, File and Print
Sharing for Microsoft Networks, QoS Packet Scheduler, and Internet
Protocol (TCP/IP). I have tried adjusting the TcpAckFrequency to no
avail. All TCP/IP functions seem to be running perfectly. It's just
file sharing over a network that is crapping out.

Yeah, it's still happening. I guess no one has ever encountered this
before.
I'm using a D-Link PCMCIA ethernet connection now, as opposed to the
built-in network adapter on the HP, but it still has the slow Windows
Networking and speedy internet. It's really stupid. I'd hate to have
to reinstall Windows again, because the HP doesn't come with an XP CD,
just a couple of CDs that wipe out the hard drive. It's a real
nuisance.
