Default wireless connection, modem icon missing on client

I'm using XP pro on both the client and the host. My wireless network in
adhoc mode has been working for quite some time. Suddenly, the icon that
appears in network connections on the client to control the modem on the
host computer has disappeared so I can no longer control the modem from the
client. If I connect the modem from the host I can still share the internet
connection from the client over the host computer modem. I checked the modem
settings on the host and it is set to share and to allow others on the
network to control the modem. Everything is working just the host modem icon
is missing from the client. Can someone tell me how to get the icon back?
thanks,
Bill
