windows xp do not see network but can access internet

My hp laptop lost the ability to see the shared documents
on my other 3 xp machines and cannot find the network but
it has the correct network name. Yet it still connects to
the internet through the lan port but if you choose setup
a network it does not show the lan port as an option only
the wireless lan, but it is accessing the internet
through that port

I am having this same issue. From the PC, can you ping
it's own TCP/IP address?
