Default Windows Live ID Internet Connection Error (Popup message)

When browsing my hard disk with Windows Explorer I keep getting an annoying
popup saying "Windows Live ID Internet Connection Error".
It seems to want to force me to connect to the internet even though I have
no need or intentions to do so!

From time to time I also get another popup saying "Sign In with Windows Live
ID".

Please tell me how to remove these popups permanently, once and for all,
forever and ever and for all eternity so help me ....

If necessary I will be willing to delete my "Live" account - would already
have done so if I thought it would help!

Microsoft will do a great service to mankind by eliminating all pop-ups,
program-"helpers" (unless specifically asked for by the user).
"carefull"-warnings as "Are you sure" followed by "Are you sure you are sure"
and the like.

For the record: I am using Windows XP Pro, Service Pack 2 and Internet
Explorer 6 both in US-English.
