I'm having a problem with 98 accessing the XP machines.
When I open Network Neighboorhood, I don't see any of the
XP machines. In fact, it is blank and when I click on
Entire Network, I get an error to look at the Network
Troublshooter in the Help and not accessible error.
I have enabled NetBIOS over TCP/IP and there are no
firewalls installed on the 98 machine. The only way the
98 machine can access the other machines is by clicking
Start, Run, and typing the <ip address> of the computers
on the network. I have read some of the posts in the
newsgroups and I'm having nothing but trouble.
There are few things that you must do when you are connecting winxp with
older versions of OS.
1. Administrator password must not be blank! only if you disabled --> "limit
local account...." in Local policy settings
2. "Use simple file sharing" must be unchecked. Windows explorer \ tools \
folder options \ view.
3. Guest account should be enabled. Right click on My Computer \ managment \
Users.
Those roles applies if connectivity is not an issue.

Unfortuately that didn't work. Regardless to say I cannot
see how this would apply to a XP machine if it was
running XP Home. However, I was running XP Pro and I did
try all of those options you mentioned.
Again, I can access the XP machine from 98 by clicking
Start, Run, and typing the <ip address> of the computer
on the LAN. I just cannot access the machine going to
Network Neighborhood which is a pain.
They are in the same workgroup too.
Any more ideas?
