I tried to set up a friends network today and the XP machine can see the 98
machine but not the other way. The fire wall on the XP machine is off and the
work group names are the same. I did a \\name\ and it could not find the XP
machine. I spent about two hours trying to find something wrong and now I am
just not sure what it could be. Help Please!
Make sure the XP's firewall is disabled. If you have any other firewall
installed such as ZoneAlarm, Sygate, or Norton make sure it is properly
configured for the network. Ensure NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled on all
machines. Details here.

The NetBios was correct. I double checked the firewalls and there are none set.
I re-did everything and still nothing. This one has me stumped.

Please provide the ipconfig results on both computers. Click Start, Run, and
type "cmd" (without quotes) and press ENTER. At the command prompt, type
"ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.txt" and press ENTER. Open c:\ipconfig.txt in
notepad, then copy and paste into your next post.

Here is the info. Notice on the XP Machine it states that "NetBIOS over Tcpip. .
.. . . . . . : Disabled" I Called the guy up and had him goto the "WINS" Tab and
double check to make sure it said enabled and it did. So why does it not appear
that way in the config file.
Thanks
Chris
