Default Upgrade ME to XP, can't get online consistently?!?

I upgraded my Windows ME (actually did new install on new
HD) to XP last week and have been having trouble
accessing the internet consistently since. I have a Dell
Dimension 4100 1gHz processor, 128 of ram, 80 gig HD,
with Linksys nc100 ethernet card connected to a 256 cable
connection. If I uninstall/reinstall the network card I
will sonmetimes be able get online. Other times I just
need to disconnect the power to my cable connection and
reboot my computer. With ME I was able to get online
with no problem. I downloaded the most recent network
card driver from their site. When I check, the card's
status is always "enabled" and seems to be connected.

Is there a compatibility issue with my system?
Do I have a virus I haven't found?
What else can I do to eliminate this issue?
Thanks-JASON

Hi,

You could have variuos reasons for such a problem:
(1) A Virus.
(2) If your computer is older then 2002, you might also
have to get the BIOS and chipset drivers updated.
(3) Bad or incompatible Network Card.
(4) Conflicting Device. You may have some other device
that might be conflicting with the network card. So by
reinstalling the Network card that conflict gets
resolved, but it may come back on the next reboot.

You can try these steps.

BEST OF LUCK!
