Default Unique network problems...

I have a home network set up for purposes of sharing broadband internet. I
have been totally successful in this venture. I have a wired Dell Dimension
8100 running windowsxp home, a wired older laptop running win98, and a
wireless HP iPaq 2215 all networked thru a linksys wireless router. I use
64 bit encryption on all connections. I get the internet on all devices
perfectly. HOWEVER...I have not been able to establish a file/printer
sharing network between the desktop and laptop. I want to share files on
both computers, and share the desktop's printer with the laptop. I am
totally lost. HELP!!!

Default RE: Unique network problems...

I was having that problem when I set my network up. Make sure that you have at least one "browser", that is one computer set up as follows:

Go to Start>Control Panel
Double click the "Administrative tools" icon
Double click the "Services" icon
or, WinKey+R, type "Services.msc" (no quotes) and hit enter
In the window that opens up, in the main frame, click on Name to organize by name, and look for "Computer Browser", make sure this service is running on at least one of the computers.

You should also make sure that "Server" and "TCP/IP NetBios" are running, and NetBios is allowed by any firewalls you have inside the router (the ones on the computers) and on your Network Connection Settings for the individual Computers.
