I have one pc (named Liz) running winxp Home Edition SP2. This can see and
connect to my laptop (named Laptop) running same op system. I cannot connect
from my laptop to my pc. Both are in the same workgroup. Each has its own
name on the network. CA Firewall on both is disabled. Windows firewall is
disabled. I am connected to a router, then out to the internet. Both get on
the net fine. I have run the browstat, ip config, net config programs and the
results for both are posted below. I am not sure how to tell which computer
is the master. I am not sure, but is it possible that on the laptop, my
tcp/ip files may be corrupt in some way? What else can I try to get them both
networked? (I double checked my wireless card properties and it is checked
off where it says enable netbios over tcpip)
Here is the info from the laptop. I am sorry for the long post but I did not
know any other way of posting all this information.

Ted,
Both computers are master browsers, each on their own browse domain. Get rid of
the IPX/SPX and the IPV6 on both.
<http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/fix-network-problems-but-clean-up.html> http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/0...-clean-up.html
Then look for personal firewalls blocking SMBs (browser SMBs use NetBT, for the
IP segments).

Cheers,
Chuck, MS-MVP 2005-2007 [Windows - Networking] http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/
Paranoia is not a problem, when it's a normal response from experience.
My email is AT DOT
actual address pchuck mvps org.
I have uninstalled both the TCP/IP Ver6 and NWLink Net Bios. I then had to
shut everything down and reboot. I then changed the setting under "enable
netbios over tcp" to default. That did the trick allowing me to newtork both
computers with the firewall up. I did research via your links the SMB's. I am
still confused on how to change one computer to be the master and how to make
the other the slave.
