Unable to browse network but can restore mapped drives
I have a smalll network of 20 systems running Windows 98, and XP. The server is Windows 2000 SP3. DCHP is enabled. The only program we run over the network is called Ambiance which is a realestate listing software. A couple of weeks ago some of the machines both XP and 98 would not run the software so the company, Quest, dialed in and made changes to the ODBC and now the mapped drives reconnect and the internet functions as well, but if I go to network nieghborhood on the 98 machines or entire network on the xp systems I cannot browse the network at all. I can send ping commands that work fine but without being able to browse the network I cannot reinstall the network printers. I went to systems that the ODBC was not modified and they browse fine. Quest will not help me because they tell me it is a windows problem (that they caused) and since thier software works fine I need to figure the network problem out myself. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Unable to browse network but can restore mapped drives
I have a quick guess: Is the "Computer Browser" service
enabled?
Start|Run, type "Services.msc", Click OK.
Check that "Computer Browser" is listed as "Started"
and "Automatic" in the right pane. If it isn't, right-
click on it, choose Properties, and set it to "Automatic"
and hit Apply. Now hit the Start button in that window,
and finally click OK.
You may need to restart the computer after this change.
