A friend has told me that XP itself contains a smtp server
and you can use it to send mail so you do not have to use an ISP's smtp server
is this true.
I cant seem to find any infomation on this
anyone got ant pointers.
would it be on the Pro Edition, I have the Home edition
The SMTP server is a process/daemon contained within IIS
(Internet Information Services), which is an available
component of Windows XP Professional (in Add/Remove Windows
Components). Using this from most ISPs isn't advisable,
though, since most major ISPs's address blocks are
blacklisted as potential spam relays (because it's so easy
to set up one's own SMTP server and then send millions of
emails).
