I recently set up a few computers (Win XP Home), on the
network switch (with adsl modem router).
It seems that the startup of the PCs slowed down
significantly - desktop icons doens't appear till a
minute later. I disabled the network connections and
rebooted, and the startup is back to normal.
I tried both dhcp enabled (modem router has dhcp
function) or fixed IP, and they are the same.
Any idea? Thanks

Been there - got the tee shirt - I 'fixed' this by assigning IP adresses to
the network cards - this stops them thrashing about trying to find a network
address on startup. Maybe not what you want though ....
