Default Slow network browsing, drive mapping, printing

HAve a XP laptop that, while connected to the network
(win 2000)will mapp drive very slowly. Also when using
explorer it may take up to 5 minutes for the drives to
appear. Once they appear you can browse them fine. Also
printing to a network printer will take forever. It
appears as though I am walking the tree so to speak
searchin for these services. This is a wan enviroment.
All my IP settings seam to be fine as I have compared
them to other machines on this this domain. My dhcp and
dns settings all seam to be fine as well.
Any help would be gratly appreciated.

Thanks
