Are you using roaming profiles? Compare the profile sizes....

I have a nine station Windows 2003 Small Business Server network. All work stations run Windows XP Pro. All work station computers were upgraded from Win98. The Windows network recently replaced an ancient Novell 3.12 system.
All stations require a long time (several minutes) to log into the network. The message "applying your personal settings" seems to go on forever before the eventual log in.
Is this delay typically caused by a large user profile? Could this be the result of the Windows XP upgrade? I have removed all of the Novell logon files from the work stations.
What is the most effective way to limit the size (or reduce) the profile?
Please disregard this post for now. I ran a search and found tons of possible solutions for this same issue.
Next time I will search first then ask questions.

This usually indicates a DNS problem. Is the client PC pointing only to the
domain DNS server for address resolution?

Same answer as the one I gave to Branlon - check DNS settings. The client
should be looking at the domain DNS server and only the domain DNS server to
resolve names.
