Default slow javascript in XP

We have a radiology website using javascript that
Radiologists use to view xrays via the intranet. On a
Win98 or Win2k pc the images load in under 5 seconds. On
XP it takes well over 1 1/2 minutes. We have striped the
XP box to bones and it is still very slow. Anyone else
having java script problems.
