Is there any way to use a scanner over a home network? I have one computer attached to the scanner through a USB cable, and I want to use the scanner wirelessly on the other computer. I know it's possible with printing, but I've never heard of doing it with a scanner.
There are networkable scanners, but you probably don't have one - they
aren't inexpensive & aren't geared towards the consumer market. I never
really saw the point myself - you still have to get up, walk over to the
scanner, and put in your items to be scanned.

Sharing a scanner is only possible if the scanner manufacturer or a
third party supplies software to do it. Windows doesn't have that
capability built in. Here's one possible source:
Scanner sharing isn't as convenient as printer sharing. Unlike a
printer, you have to be physically present at a scanner to operate it.
Here are some other possibilities:
1. Scan images into a shared folder on the computer that connects to
the scanner, and then access the images from the other computer(s).
2. Install the free RealVNC program on each computer, allowing you to
remotely control the computer that connects to the scanner from any
other computer on the network: http://www.realvnc.com

I have hooked up several scanners on networks. They all came with their own software to accomplish it. If the scanner manufacturer doesn't have software to support networking, I don't know of a way to do it.
