remote shutdown using shutdown.exe not working. please help
Hi -
Just a shot in the dark, but a couple of things have to
happen for for remote shutdown to work.
1. I think simple file sharing has to be disabled on the
target machine. I'm not positive on this one, but since
all access to the remote machine is through the Guest
account and Guest doesn't have permissions to shut down
from remote it makes some sense to me.
2. The remote user must be logged on as a member of the
target machine's "Administrators" group.
3. The right to shut down the machine from remote cannot
have been restricted - take a look at the machine's Group
Policy Editor (gpedit.msc) - you'll find the policy at
Computer Configuration --> Windows Settings --> Security
Settings --> Local Policies --> User Rights Assignment --
> Force shutdown from a remote system
If all that stuff is configured correctly it *should*
work ;-)
Hope this helps -

A to be able to shutdown B. Optimally I'd like for A to
be able to go into computer management, connect to B and
be able to do many things remotely.

both of these things. I've made an ADMIN account on both
machines that have the same passwords too. but i get
access denied. we are on a private LAN on a workgroup
connected to a linksys router which is connected to the
internet. A is online with the admin logged in while
admin is logged in on B trying to remotely access A.
