Default remap network drives without restart

I've got 6 Windows XP computers sharing some folders off one XP
computer in a simple peer to peer network. Occasionally the computer
sharing the folders will get restarted, resulting in the rest losing
the connection to the mapped folders. Is there any easy or automated
way I can reconnect to these mapped folders without restarting the
machine?

Further details: the folders seem to reconnect but don't realize it -
I can double-click the mapped drive icon with the red X through it and
browse the network share but I can't get rid of the red X, and until I
do, my application (Amicus) won't cooperate. My users don't like to
have to restart the computer to get back to work, is there any way I
can get those drives remapped without a restart?

Further research:

Can't yet duplicate the problem on my own network.

Scripting might be an answer, but I've got a feeling that this isn't
normal behavior to begin with. Any comment?
