Default Re: Auto IP Detect Not Working

The computer that is connecting is connecting directly to the cable
connection and is assigned the IP address by your ISP. There appears to be
no router setup in your configuration. Your other computer will not be able
to connect in this configuration since you can only have one address at a
time by your ISP. Is the computer getting an address plugged directly into
the cable modem?

Default Re: Auto IP Detect Not Working

It's going to be first come first serve if you plug them both into a hub.
Since it does nothing but forward the network request and nothing else. You
can get the Linksys of Netgear routers cheap and they give you a firewall
for your always on connection.

The router acts a gateway so that the ISP only sees one connection so
regardless of how many computers you have connected behind the router, all
can connect through the router.

other one will not work alone on the hub.

what is the solution? shell out $50 for a router to make sure I can get my
own IP all of the time?
