Default profile Unknown

I receive the following error message on a XP Pro
workstation and two 2000 Pro workstations connected to a
2003 domain controller:

A domain controller for your domain could not be located.
You have been logged on using cached information. Changes
to your profile since you last logged on may not be
available.

Connection to the domain controller is lost several times
a day causing loss of data.

After following the instructions in kb article 150963,
both 2000 Pro workstations are able to login and stay
logged in without a problem. The same username and
password retain their same local profile. The XP Pro
computer can also login and remain logged on, however the
same user loses the old profile. A profile
called "unknown" is listed, but grayed out. Even logged
in as administrator, the profile cannot be copied or
located under documents and settings. Due the size of
this profile (85) mb, I suspect this is the profile I
want to use. How do I get it back?

The "unknown" profile means that your workstation is no longer able to
resolve the SID associated with it. I don't know of any way to turn it back
into a "real" profile again. You should be able to browse to it by looking
in Documents and Settings, it won't be named "Unknown" but will have the
actual logon name of the user that it used to belong to.
