Problem copying certain files from one system to another
I have a four XP machines in a dental office. All machines have the ability to read DVD's but only one has a DVD burner. My goal is to be able to quickly restore a system from a DVD in case of a major failure. My strategy has been to back up the C: partition on each machine to a backup partition on that same machine. Then, using my local area network, I copy the backup files to the machine that has the DVD burner, and then burn copies of each system backup onto a DVD. I use Norton Ghost to back up each machine's C: partition to a D: partition. When I do this, Norton creates two files for each backup--a "filename.gho" file that contains the first 2GB of the backup, and a "filename001.ghs file that contains the portion of the backup that exceeded the initial 2GB chunk. When I copy the Ghost backup files to my DVD burner machine using the network, the "filename.gho" file copies without problem. However, when I try to copy the "filename001.ghs file, I get the following message: "cannot copy filename001.ghs, access denied, check to see if file is in use or disk full ...". This inability to copy only occurs if I am trying to copy the file to another XP machine. If I try to copy the file to a Win98 machine, then everything works perfectly. If I try to copy the file back to the c: partition on the same machine, everything works perfectly. The problem only seems to occur if I am copying from my XP machine to another XP machine over the network. Note that I have made the ownership and permissions on the .ghs file exactly the same as on the .gho file to eliminate ownership or permissions as the source of the problem. It now appears to be something in the networking. Does anyone know what is going on and how I can get around this problem?
