When I start one of my WinXP Pro, dell laptops it takes a long time at the "preparing network connections" dialogue box. I have looked into the event viewer but did not see anything. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
We have several new IBM T40 laptops that are running Windows XP. All of the laptops are taking a couple minutes to boot while "preparing network connections." The temporary fix we've found is to disable the built in wireless network adapter within the device manager. There are wireless networks (not ours) within range at our office. Also, we have turned off the wireless at the software level, but this doesn't seem to help us at startup. Alternatives to disabling our hardware?
Statically setting the DNS servers had no effect upon our problem (as often suggested as a possible fix to this issue around the newsgroups). Setting the LAN card first in the Connections order in the Network Connections Advanced Settings did not help. What did rid us of the long boot (beside disalbing the hardware as stated below) was disabling DHCP on the wireless card. Obviously, this is not an acceptable solution.
