Default Premature NIC Termination in Hardware Profile Control Panel

One of our employees at where I work at has been having
an odd problem with her network connection. It seems that
the network card (an old Intel Pro 100VE) tends to disable
itself prematurely, both from the network connection and
inside the device profile. It works when the card is
reenabled, but it only disconnects itself again. Why is
this happening, and is there a solution?
