Computers running Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows Me, Windows 2000,
and Windows XP have a built-in ICS (Internet Connection Sharing)
capability that lets them share their dial-up Internet connections
with other computers. The other computers can run any version of
Windows, Unix, Mac, etc.

The original version of Windows 98 doesn't have ICS. Sharing its
dial-up Internet connection requires 3rd party software.

If possible, use XP as the ICS computer. Its version of ICS is easier
to set up and more reliable than the one in other Windows versions.

An alternative is to use a device that has a built-in dial-up modem
and Ethernet connections for computers. I've had good results with
the Actiontec Dual PC Modem, available from these sites:

You can connect a network hub or switch to the Dual PC Modem to allow
more than two computers to share the dial-up connection.
