Default Openning specific ports

Hello, I'm trying to first figure out how to disable my windows xp firewall (or even find out if it's enabled at all) but when i right click on network connections i get a window showing me m network bridge, lan adapter and wireless adapter. I try to right click on each to see if i can find the check box for the firewall but I don't find any. I have a Sony viao GRT100 with built it wireless card and I am connected to my university's lan network. I started playing Ragnarok online a couple of days ago but since last night I couldn't connect at all. My connection speed is very fast and when i checked ragnarok's bbs i didn't see anyone else having problems. According the game's site I need to have ports 21, 80, 5000 and 6900 open but when i ran a port scanner today i found that 21, 80 are closed while port 5000 is under stealth firewall. How did this happen? Also, can i open those ports?

p.s: i disabled norton internet security during the game login and firewall test.

the built in firewall is under: right click my network
places/properties/right click local area
connection/properties/select the advanced tab.

I'm afraid I don't know how to configure the ports though.

Default Re: Openning specific ports

The following information is from a MS KB article as an example
http://support.microsoft.com/default...&Product=winxp

1.. Click Start, and then click My Network Places.
2.. Under Network Tasks, click View Network Connections. (Or, you can
right-click My Network Places on the desktop, and then click Properties.)
3.. Right-click the connection that you use for the Internet, and then
click Properties.
4.. Click the Advanced tab, and then click Settings.

Note If the Settings button is unavailable, ICF is not enabled on this
connection and you do not have to open any ports (they are all already
open).
5.. Click Add to open a new port.
6.. In the Description box, type a friendly name. For example, type File
Sharing : Port 445.
7.. In the Name or IP address of the computer hosting this service on your
network box, type 127.0.0.1.

NOTE: You can specify the IP address of an internal computer; however, in
most cases, you use 127.0.0.1.
8.. In the External port and Internal port boxes, type the port number. In
most cases, this number is the same.
9.. Click either TCP or UDP, and then click OK.
10.. Repeat this process for each port to be opened.

Your LAN adapter and wireless adapter can't be firewalled because
they're part of a network bridge.

If you right click and remove the network bridge, you'll be able to
enable or disable the firewall on the LAN adapter and/or the wireless
adapter.
