Default Odd networking problem

I just set up a new computer(XP)to our (NT Server)network
but I can't access the network or the internet. The
settings are exactly the same as the other machines. I
can ping the router and the server, it says I'm connected
to the network, but I can't access anything on the
network or the internet. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Bernie Mooney

Try turning off the firewall(on the XP box) and see if that helps.

Thanks. I tried that. What's even stranger, at least to
me, is that I can ping google.com by name and address.

Fixed it. You're suggestion about the firewall gave me an
idea. It was Norton Internet Security. It wasn't running
but I removed it completely and voila! Thanks for your
help.

Can you elaborate on "cant access anything" ?? Perhaps
some error messages, are you trying to go via your browser
to a web site(you mentioned Google) or are you trying to
browse the net for another system/server ?? Are your
TCP/IP settings static or dynamic ?

Have you tried ftp from the command shell or
from the browser ? Some more detail might be
helpfull.
