not receiving packets

I am suddenly unable to receive any packets. I have two
computers on my Lan one is working fine sending and
receiving packets, but the other is only sending packets.
I have disconnected it from the Lan and connected it
strait to the cable modem but it still does not receive
anything.

A little more detail about your network, and your experience, would be a great
help here.

What is normally connected between the two computers and the cable modem - a
hub, switch, or router?

Has the second computer ever worked for receiving packets?

Is the problem with internet only, or are you unable to receive file share
traffic also?

If the first computer works for internet service, it sounds like you're not
using a router, or the router is not set up properly.

Cable broadband services generally only work for one computer or network device
(computer or router, NOT hub or switch). If you have two computers, connected
by a hub or switch to the cable modem, I'd bet that the first works because it
is registered with the cable modem.

If you have two computers connected to a router, which is connected to the cable
modem, you can't just connect one computer straight to the cable modem without
registering it first. And you generally can't connect two computers to a hub or
switch, and expect for both to have internet service.

And Michael, please don't contribute to the spread and success of email address
mining viruses. Learn to munge your email address properly, to keep yourself a
