No response for 10mins after connecting to Internet
Have dial-up connection to internet (thanks to lack of broadband service in my area!!) and currently find that after I connect, I cannot run any program for about 10 mins after connecting ( even shut down and taskmgr won't run). I was infected but have updated virus protection (NAV) and Windows upate, have checked and my PC is virus free.
If I start PC and don't connect to Internet then all programs run fine. If i start up programs before connecting to internet then they run fine after connecting, it just seems that if i start the dial-up connection then try to open a program, thats when everything runs slow.
Is this somehing to do with the sasser virus? I was infected with it but have updated virus protection (NAV) and Windows upate, and checked that my PC is virus free (have checked with microsoft and Norton tools).

Virus software prevents virus, they don't fix the damage done by the virus.
Re: No response for 10mins after connecting to Internet
Nick's comments are half correct. Although any antivirus worth its salt can
clear the immediate threat (delete the virus, or quarantine it, or clean it
if possible) there is still cleanup work that often needs to be done. Go to
the Symantec web site (http://www.symanec.com/) and look up the name of the
virus that was found - not the name of the infected file but the name of the
virus infecting it) and there should be more cleaning instructions to finish
the job.

Re: No response for 10mins after connecting to Internet
Thanks for your reply. I have followed your suggestion and completed all instructions in Symantec website. No improvement. Do you have other suggestions?
