No access to hidden share on xp-client within domain
Hello!
I wanted to change an existing share on a
Windows XP pro-PC (german, with all patches)
within a Windows 2003-domain to a hidden share
(creating a new hidden share and deleting the
old regular share).
Two XP-PCs need to exchange some data using a
share. A network share is not an option in this
particular case. Both PCs in question are domain-
members and have all patches etc. installed.
As long as they use the regular share (example:
D:\share instead of D:\share$) there is no
problem. But as soon I (domain and local admin)
try to e. g. map the hidden share I am told
that this path does not exixt - even if
'everyone' is allowed to use the share.
This error does not occur when I map the same
path using a regular share even with rather
restricted access-rights (both to the share
and the filesystem).
Mapped drives to hidden shares on our network
which are connected upon logon do work fine.
Completely shutting down the XP-firewalls on
both computers did not lead to any improvment.

Hello!
On which computer should I use 'net share'?
On the one with the (hidden) share or the
other one from which I cannot connect to the
hidden share?
Should I just enter 'net share' or a
complete command e. g. to map the (hidden?)
share?
Thank you!
