I'm just wondering if anyone would recommend a specific
Newsreader to post here. I'm getting kinda tired of using
IE to browse here...
I'm trying Free Agent right now, but I'm having
difficulties getting it to connect to any newsgroup. I've
entered "microsoft.public.windowsxp.perform_maintain"
(without quotes) into the newsgroup server, and I'm
getting the error that it can't connect to the server.
Any suggestions on what I'm doing wrong? I'm sorry to say
that I've got just about zero experience with
newsreaders, but I do catch on pretty quick.

I agree with you that accessing these news groups through IE isn't a
very good way.
I use and recommend the full version of Agent. Free Agent will give
you a taste of it.
The news group server name is "msnews.microsoft.com". Once you've
connected to the news group server, download the list of news groups
and subscribe to "microsoft.public.windowsxp.perform_maintain" and
whatever other groups you're interested in.

Please post any reply as a follow-up message in the news group
for everyone to see. I'm sorry, but I don't answer questions
addressed directly to me in E-mail or news groups.
I've got Free Agent working to the point where I can
download and read the posts, but when I try to reply or
post a new message I get Agent telling me that I need to
specify an E-mail Server...
Any help?
Thanks again,
Nick

You're telling it to reply by E-mail, Nick.
To reply to a news group message, you can either press the F key or
click Post | Follow-Up Usenet Message
To post a new message, you can either press the P key or click Post |
New Usenet Message.
Hang in there -- it will be well worth your while to learn to use an
NNTP news reader program.

I didn't know the shortcut keys, but I was going
into "Post" and then "Follow-Up Usenet Message". Am I
supposed to hit the "Send" button when I'm done my
message? (I'm so used to being the person who answers
these kinds of questions =P)
Thanks again,
Nick

Yes, the send button (or Ctrl-N) sends a message.
I'm glad to help you get started with Agent, but this really isn't the
appropriate news group for it.
I recommend browsing through Agent's Help files to learn more about
the product.
There's expert peer support available in this news group, which should
be available on your ISP's news server:
