Networking Wizard runs forever - can't get ICS to work with wireless
I'm trying to fix a friend's machine. He has a dial-up Internet connection
on his XP Home machine, and a Belkin 6001 PCI Wireless card, which he's
trying to use with a Belkin 6020 PC Card in a laptop.
I've set up ICS. The two wireless cards appear to be able to see each
other, but I can't get a through Internet connection from the laptop. I've
had the PC card working happily elsewhere - the problem appears to be on the
desktop. When I tried to run the Networking Wizard, it asked sensible
questions (to which I gave sensible answers) and then runs indefinitely.
When the system is forced to reboot, DNS doesn't work, and only a system
restore will get the Internet connection working again.
The machine has McAfee Firewall installed, but I've set this to "Allow all"
which is effectively disabling the firewall.
Any ideas gratefully received!

By the way, the two machines worked perfectly together with a crossover
cable.

RE: Networking Wizard runs forever - can't get ICS to work with wirele
Try this, Control panel / Networks
Right click the broadband card and select properties / advanced / allow other users to connect.... / in the dropdown select the wifi card then click ok.
This is the 'manual' way to setup ICS. and should work fine.
Hope that helps

Re: Networking Wizard runs forever - can't get ICS to work with wirele
Thanks, Ashleigh!
In fact I've tried this - it's the way I set up ICS on my own machine, and
it does work fine. However, on this setup I've only seen that dropdown on a
couple of occasions - it's not usually there (despite persistent fiddling
about). Is that a clue?
I think I haven't been systematic enough about this. I've now set an
identifiable Restore Point and will log everything I do... Next crack at
the machine will be tonight.
