networking: problems with sharing files & printer

hi, i was wondering if someone could help me with my networking.

i can share the internet between the two computers but not files or printing. I can't even see the other computer on this one and vice versa. It may be that the one that has all the hardware (printer, cable connection) is not the administrator and instead, the other computer is. Could this be the problem and how would i fix it if it was. Otherwise, any suggestions as to why i can't share my files?
They both run on windows xp.

Does either PC have a firewall active? If the XP firewall is on, turn it
off for your network connection. If a third-party firewall is involved
remove it.

Using XP Pro. on all computers, it is better to
run Network Setup wizard from the beginning and use the
same workgroup name for the computers, this will help to
identify the hardware such as printer and share it to
each other, Administrator is not a problem.
for file sharing, use sharing and securing in right click
to your source directory, then the files on each drive
will be shown on other computers.

I would try to remove the thirdparty firewalls (the other firewall has already been removed) except my brother is paranoid about being hacked into and he won't do it. Is there another way around this. Or would you be able to turn it off, share the files, and then turn it back on again?

If you want to try to fix the problem, no. Simply disabling many
third-party firewalls doesn't do the trick, they must be uninstalled to test
to see if the firewall is the cause of the problem.

Alternatively you could RTFM that came with your firewall software and try
to muck about and enable F&PS without disabling the firewall but if this
fails you still don't know if it's the firewall or something else broken.

Thanks for your help and i did fix the problem. I don't know what RTFM and the F&PS are but i'll tell the other computer illerate people like me what i did. I went into my third party firewall and in the 'personal firewal' place i went to home networking and got the ip address of the other computer and i said that this computer is 'trusted'. did that and everything worked fine.
