Hi it appears that i need a microsoft hotfix to solve my problem of when i click on my network places and my shared documents, an error window pops up and sends a report and my windows explorer restarts. when i click send report it tells me that i need a certain hotfix but it doesnt give me a link or exact location. supposedly this is a common problem. i need help. does anyone have a link or solution on how to get the hotfix???
Hi,
In order to find out what hotfix is needed we need to
have a look at the event log in more detail. Could you
please do the following:
1. Open Network Places so that an error is generated.
2. Open up event viewer (Control Panel > Performance &
Maintanence > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer)
3. Look for an error message that occured upto 2 minutes
ago (source will probably be 'explorer.exe').
4. Please provide me with the 'source' from the source
column and the error code (e.g source:explorer, Error
Code:1002)
Thanks, Luke.

Hi,
Thanks for the info. I have researched the error code but
curiously there is no mention of a patch. Could you send
me the details of what you are told when you click 'send
error report' or could you e-mail me a screenshot of the
error report's result's page. Thanks, Luke.

Hi,
I think I have just found what you are looking for. The
patch you mention is only intended for use if you need it
so you must contact Microsoft Support Services to obtain
the patch. Intructions on obtaining this hotfix can be
found at:
Please let me know if this fixes the problem, Luke.

(sorry if i keep double-posting but it keeps saying that an error has occurred and it will be investigated)

Hi,
I know how confusing the pages can be. Here's what you
need to do:
1. Go to 'www.microsoft.com/support'
2. Choose the 'contact Microsoft'link
3. Choose 'ask a support Q online'
4. Choose 'submit a request for help'
5. Then, click on 'ask a Microsoft support pro for help'
6. Choose 'the problem occurs in this computer'
7. On the next page choose Windows XP as the product
8. On the next page you may be asked to clarify between
IE and XP, choose windows XP
9. In your message to Mirosoft explain the problem and
tell them that you have been advised by crash analysis to
get the hotfix. Include the following info as well:
Date Time Version Size File name
----------------------------------------------------------

Microsoft will send you a link where you can download the
the hofix as well as the password you will need to be
able to install the hotfix once you have downloaded it.
Let me know if anything is unclear and how you get on,
Luke.
