Default Networking/Internet error

I just upgraded to Windows XP Pro from Windows 98 SE and
when I try and load and setup my Verizon DSL service, I
receive a "Lsass.exe System Process unexpectedly Quits
with a 1073741819 status code" error message and it shuts
my computer down. I can not find any information on it
for Windows XP. It was addressed in Windows 2000 but when
I download that patch it says I have the wrong system for
it. Can anyone tell me how to fix it?
