Network wizard/manual setup fails

I started by using the network wizard and it aborted with a message indicating that I should attempt a manual setup. When I was looking at the "advanced" tab on the lan connection there was a message indicating that the WMI might be corrupt and to restore. Restoration did not work. Help!!
