Default network problem after changing nics

situation :
comp.1 - server, has 2 nics (1 lan, 1 wan) (2 network
connections) and 3 aditional netw. connections from :
vmware (2) and firewire (1) [on an audigy 2 soundcard]
running WinXPPro SP1+all updates

comp.2 - 1 nic, connects through comp.1 (ics)

everything worked ok.
---

situation2 :
wan nic on comp.1 was damaged during a storm, so i changed
it [uninstalled it first from device manager].

---
problem:
imediately after replacing nics (surecom ep230x) with same
type , vmware connections and firewire connection are no
longer visible in network connections, 'internet connection
sharing' 'menu' no longer appears in the 2 remaining
connections, and 'setup home or small office network
wizard' no longer starts.

is there a way to fix this ?
