Default Network not working with Norton Internet Security?

I have a home network connecting through a Linksys 4-port Router. I
connect my Desktop and my Laptop on the network to share Internet and files
and printers. I have XP Home on both computers with all updates. The
Local Area Network on each computer is configged with;
Client for Microsoft Networks
File & Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)

I have Norton Internet Security (NIS) installed on the Desktop, but not on
the Laptop. When NIS is enabled, the Laptop cannot see the Desktop, but
the Desktop can see the Laptop (I Ping both way to confirm this). If I
disable NIS, then the Laptop can see the Desktop.

In NIS, under Personal Firewall/Home Networking, I have added the IP
Address for both the Desktop & Laptop to the "Trusted" area, but it still
does not allow the Laptop to see the Desktop when NIS is enabled.

What else do I need to do to get these pcs seeing each other when NIS is
enabled?

Thanks
Charlie

When adding the IP address of locally networked PCs use this method
select "Using a network address", NOT "Individually" or "Using a range"

add IP address and Subnet mask, the PCs will have to have manually assinged
IP's

OR

try the using the workgroup network wizard instead

a.. In the main window, double-click Personal Firewall.
b.. In the Personal Firewall window, on the Networking tab, click Wizard.
c.. In the Workgroup Network Wizard opening window, click Next.
d.. In the resulting list, check the network adapters that you want to
configure automatically and add to your Trusted Zone.
e.. Click Next.
f.. Click Finish to close the wizard.
Let us know how you get on.

The 2nd option using the network wizard appears to have worked. Now, with
NIS running on the desktop, the laptop does see the desktop and I can share
files. Thanks for the tip and instructions. I appreciate the help.
