My parents own a small business using a LAN to control
POS. After a recent thunderstorm, all computers
restarted as the power flickered. Upon restarting, the
office computer showed a message asking if we wanted to
install an ethernet controller. This is where she called
me.
After examining the computer, and going to Device
Manager, I find a exclamation under Other
Devices/Ethernet Controller. I am unable to install any
drivers to this device. I also noticed that there is a
WAN network driver already installed. I'm not sure, but
I don't think we need the new driver that the computer
wants to install. I have tried uninstalling this device
and have tried to disable it, but still this computer can
not see or be seen on the network. I have tried using
system restore but after restoring to yesterday, the
computer still restarts asking to install this device. I
hope my problem is presented clearly, please help. Thanks
Sounds like the driver became corrupted. Download the current driver from
the manufacturer's website and reinstall them for the device.
