Default Network Connections window pops up for no reason

Help! I am accessing the Internet via a cable connection, but I also have
settings for dial-up connections should I ever need them. Normally, this is
no problem -- but since yesterday, a Network Connections window has started
popping up at random intervals, prompting me to connect to one of the dial-up
connections. My choices are "connect," "cancel," "new," and
"properties"...none of which gives me an option to disable this window from
popping up! Worse than that, until I hit "cancel," I am disconnected from my
cable connection.

While it's possible that it's a variation in the quality of my cable
connection that is causing this window to pop up, I can't help but think it's
the other way around -- especially since I was having trouble with the cable
last week but never saw this message even once.

The only variable to all this is that yesterday I tried (unsuccessfully, I
believe) to network my computer with my boyfriend's Mac; at the time we were
sharing the wireless connection he has at his house. I thought that maybe
disconnecting my computer from all networks might help, but I can't find any
way to do that. The wizard seems to exist for creating networks only, not
discontinuing them.

Any thoughts? Thank you in advance!

Hi
While in Internet Explorer pull down the Tools Menu, choose Internet
Options, and click on Connection tab.
Check the option to Never Dial a Connection.
After doing it there would no more PopUps. However if you lose your Internet
Cable connection it is a problem, and you need to take care of it.

I just did that -- thanks! But does it matter that I'm usually using
Firefox? Is there an equivalent to this procedure that I should be doing
there?

Hi
The setting in Internet Explorer would keep Firefox Dialup at bay too.
