Default network card

What is the proper way to install a new network card in a
desktop Windows XP Pro? Do I uninstall the current one
shut down put in the new one and let XP find and install
it? The instructions say Windows XP has the drivers for
the new one but I was wondering about getting rid of the
old one. Thanks.
