Default Loopback plug as LAN connection

Hi,

My Windows XP won't recognise an ethernet loopback plug,
it just says 'network cable unplugged' despite the fact
that it should recognise the loopback plug as a genuine
LAN connection. I'm obviously missing something, what am
I doing wrong?

A loopback plug works for me on XP. I just put in two wires a) pin 1 to pin
3 b) pin 2 to pin6.

Have you tried the loopback plug on another machine to prove it's not a
problem with the plug ?

Does changing the speed negotiation setting from auto to one of the other
values make any difference ?

Dave.
