Default LAN Net Adapter Connection

So I just moved from Hawaii to Las Vegas and brought my computer that me and
a friend had built.

Problem: I have a cable modem connection here at where I am staying, on my
friends computer it has no problem connecting, but when I attach the ethernet
cable to my computer, the Activity only has been sending data and not been
receiving any packets.

I havent had an issue with that till I came here, and I dont have a 1394 Net
Adapter either which I am not sure if that makes a difference because back
home I had a cable connection also and never had a problem with it. Also
everytime I restart the computer the connection does not stay on. I have
connected here and there but its pretty worthless. I have tried to scan for
any new hardware changes, researched if i needed a 1394 Net Adapter driver
but no answer.

Its jus stressful because when its plugged in my friends computer it works
normal but when the ethernet is plugged into mines, theres no connection at
times, and when it does say connected, the connection status is all messed up
and no data is being received.

Anyone know of a solution?

Default Re: LAN Net Adapter Connection

best option is to buy a router to connect multiple computers.
otherwise, you will probably need to power cycle the cable modem
(unplug it and plug it in again) every time you switch computers.
