While connected to the internet, I was suddenly
disconnected (on cable). I called the ISP, and they said
it was a problem with windows not accepting IP addresses.
I tried the Windows XP network connection repair feature
and it gave me the error that the IP was unable to tbe
renewed. I haven't been able to find any information
about this issue using Microsoft support.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I would prefer if
you used my e-mail, but a reply would be fine also.
Thanks
Actually, that was the first thing that the ISP made us
do to try to fix it, but that (along with other basic
things) didn't work so they told us it was a problem with
Microsoft.
Thanks anyways though.

Mike,
A. Have you check with MS, and updated your PC?
B. Have you check with your NIC card manufacturer and see if there are any firmware update for your NIC card?
C. Have you check with the cable modem manufacturer and see if there are any firmware update for your Modem?
1. If you are leasing the modem, check with Cable company and see if they have a newer one. Comcast replaced my RCA DCM235 with a RCA DCM305, because of system changes.
D. Are you using Comcast, for your ISP? If you do, I had a similar problem with them. When you loose connection, have you tried the following:
1. Check the Ethernet/USB connection between Cable Modem & PC. If you use a USB connection, make sure that the cable is not lose at the PC end.
2. Reboot PC, and see if you regain (renew) connection.
3. Disconnect power cable from Cable Modem, wait about 1 min (maybe a little longer). Reconnect power cable to cable modem, let it run its self tests, and try to connect to net. You might have to reboot PC.
4. START button> Network Connections> Select Local Area Network> Press the repair button. try connection to the Internet.
If D2, D3, or D4 works, and you use Comcast, it is probably updating their Internet system in your area, but they usually don't want to admit that its their fault. They had to upgrade my modem, to work with their system, in the Detroit MI area. When they combine two (2) systems, and also when they started to add Hi-Definition service to the area. I would have them come out and check you lines, and see if their any problems with it, also.
