I have an XP Pro machine that was working fine on a small business/home network then lost the internet/network connection. I check the connection and it shows an IP address of 169.254.x.x. I know that this is the default address when the computer is not getting the info it needs from the server. I connected it to another separate network and the same thing occurs. I cannot release/renew. I've even changed the NIC. Any help? Thanks.
Have you tried to set static Ip to Network adapter?

No I haven't. I don't have the information for default gateway, Dns servers, etc. But, when I try to run ipconfig /release *con* (6), or ipconfig /renew 6, I get the message "The operation failed as no adapter is in the state permissable for this operation" This happens with either adapter. Interesting huh? Thanks for the reply.
