Internet problems with "My Network Place"

i just got a new computer and got high speed internet with
it. i brought it in to be fixed cause i was having problems
and it still has the problem even though the company says
there shouldnt be a problem. i phoned the internet provider
and they have never heard of this problem.
well the computer company installed the internet, but
nothing appears in "My Network Places" like no "LAN or High
SPeed Connections" and in the bottom right corner there is
no icon with 2 comptuers connected showing
so my internet will connect through internet explorer since
thats the only way to connect, but the browser wont work
nor windows messenger
can anyone help me here?
