Intermittently dropping network connections & printers

I am running XP Pro on my laptop and I have it connected to a Windows 2003
Server machine and I have an ongoing problem of losing the network
connection after my laptop has been connected for a while. This is also
happening with my network printer connection.

If I restart my laptop then I can go in and access my network shares just
fine and see the network printer as well. But then after time I will lose
the connections again - can't figure out what is going on.

Any ideas as to what is going on?

Also, a friend of mine told me that he is having the same problem with his
network.
