Default Install/ininstall TCP/IP

I can't connect to the network anymore, my machine keeps
telling me I have to install the TCP/IP protocol but when
I check the propoerties it's there !!

I have installed/uninstalled the NIC several times but no
result. Loopback test works fine.

Any advise is most welcome

I have a similar problem, but the KB 811259 article did
not solve it. I abruptly lost my internet connection on
one of two computers on my home network, but the other is
just fine. I can sync my Pocket PC, but there is no
evident connection to the Netgear Hub, which is working
fine for the other computer.
I stopped and restarted all my network components, to no
avail. Norton says the machine is virus free. I used
system restore to turn back to a time when the connection
was fine, but the restore, though successful, did not
help.

When I ran MSINFO32, I found that I had only two of the
ten items (I had "MSAFD Tcpip[TCP/IP]" and "MSAFD Tcpip
[UDP/IP]" but nothing else) Even after deleting the
registry keys and installingTCP/IP, I still have only two
items listed at System Information>
components/Network/Protocol

I used the netdiag tool from support tools and it
returned that winsock test passed.

Swapping cables between the working and non-working
computers does not help.

Ideas?

Chuck

Those two entries are the important ones, so I think the problem is not with
Winsock. Do the lights light up on the router when you plug in the cable?
